Box Score Kearney, Neb. – Senior
Kirstie Hiatt and junior
Becky Dunn tossed complete games and the top of the order was strong at the plate to help Nebraska-Kearney sweep a double header from Chadron State,
4-1 and
8-1, Friday afternoon at Dryden Park.
Due to the Easter Holiday, all RMAC series have been moved up a day. On a cold and windy afternoon, UNK (17-17, 14-12 RMAC) wins a sixth straight game while the Eagles fall to 13-24 (11-17 RMAC).
In game one, Hiatt (McCook) no-hit Chadron for the first 5.1 innings. Eagle lead off hitter Nikki Ritzen beat out a ground ball to end the no-hit bid and clean up hitter Katie Londo hit a sharp single with one out in the seventh to record Chadron's other hit.
Improving to 10-8, Hiatt fanned two, walked two and didn't allow an earned run. Offensively, freshman shortstop
Mallory Noakes (Lincoln SW) went 3 for 4 with two runs and two RBI's from the two hole with senior second baseman
Ali Seberger (Lexington) going 3 for 4 with two RBI's from the third spot in the lineup.
UNK, with eight hits overall, saw Seberger have RBI singles in the first and third innings and Noakes record run scoring hits in the third and sixth innings.
Dunn (Papillion) is now 7-6 after allowing six hits and one earned run in the night cap. Fanning five and walking none, she shut out the Eagles for the first three innings.
Loper lead off hitter
Austin Wilson (2 for 4, three RBI's) hit a two-run single down the left field line in the second and then UNK scored five unearned runs in the third thanks to two Eagle errors.
In that big inning, Noakes (1 for 3) had a two-run single to center. Two innings later, Seberger (1 for 3) had an RBI double. Finally, in the eight hole, senior 1b
Dani Mowinkel (Hooper) went 2 for 3 with two runs scored.
The teams will play a double header Saturday starting at 11:00 a.m.
