# 11 Jennies Survive Fiesty Lopers

Laramey Lewis
Box Score Kearney, Neb. – Forwards Nicole Caddell and Keuna Flax combined for 43 points and 18 rebounds as 11th-ranked Central Missouri survived Nebraska-Kearney, 68-63, Wednesday night at the Health & Sports Center.

This was the first-ever meeting between the Jennies (13-1, 5-1) and Lopers (4-10, 1-6).

Facing a deeper and more athletic squad, UNK worked as hard as ever to keep things close. The Lopers hung around all night thanks to 25 offensive rebounds, which led to 24 second chance points.

Also scoring 22 points off of 20 UCM turnovers, Kearney rallied from a 13 point second half deficit to make it a 67-63 contest after a put back bucket by Lincoln sophomore Queen Ohamara with 46 seconds to play.

After UCM missed two free throws, UNK had a chance to get within two but a flurry of action with 28 seconds left included a Loper turnover and a missed Ohamara jumper. UCM managed to pull down the rebound and then hit one of two free throws to finish the scoring.

A 5-11 senior, Cadell made her first five shots and ended with a game-high 22 points on 9 of 14 field goal shooting. She also had 10 rebounds, five steals, three blocks and an assist.

Not to be out done, Flax, a 5-11 junior, tallied 21 points on 8 of 13 shooting. She added eight rebounds, three assists and a steal as well.

Winning the battle on the glass 48-34, UNK ended the night shooting 33.3% (23 of 69). The Lopers took 15 more shots than the Jennies, who were at 48.1%.

Individually, junior guard Sarah Hix (Broomfield, Colo.) tallied a career-best 17 points thanks to six made field goals (two threes) with freshman guard Laramey Lewis (Trenton) going 5 of 7 from the floor to end with 15.

The pair also combined for 13 rebounds, three steals and three assists. Finally, junior point Nicole Arp (Kearney H.S.) had six rebounds, four assists, three steals and two points.

UNK heads to Missouri Southern State Saturday afternoon.
