Box Score Kearney, Neb. – Southwest Baptist sophomore guard Preston Guiot hit two free throws with three seconds left to rally the Bearcats past Nebraska-Kearney, 89-88, Saturday afternoon in Bolivar, Mo.
 
Southwest improves to 6-10 (3-6) while the Lopers fall to 5-13 (2-8).  On Thursday night, Truman State scored six points in the final 28 seconds, including a three with seven seconds left, to beat UNK, 80-79.
 
In a game where Kearney held a couple of eight or nine point leads, SBU erupted for a 13-0 run to lead 79-75 with 3:40 to play.  This three minute stretch featured three of SBU's 14 three pointers and UNK going 0 of 3 from the field with two turnovers.
 
The Lopers bounced back, however, regaining the lead with 11 ticks left on a three point play by sophomore forward Tyler Shields (Kearney H.S).  But, Guiot capped off a great day by sinking both freebies after Shields fouled him.
 
Senior wing Jon Henderson (Salt Lake City, Utah) did hit a three for UNK, from just beyond the top of the key, but the potential game winning shot came after the final horn sounded.
 
The son of SBU head coach Jeff Guiot, the younger Guiot finished with a game-high 23 points thanks to 7 of 13 three point shooting. As a team, Southwest attempted 30 triples. Two days ago against the UNK zone, Truman went 15 of 35 from behind the arc.
 
The Bearcats also grabbed 19 offensive rebounds, leading directly to 26 points.
 
Shooting a solid 56% from the field, UNK got a career-high 22 points and a team-high eight rebounds from Shields. To have his best offensive day, Shields sunk 8 of 10 shots (4 of 6 threes).

Starters Pierre Newton (17) and Henderson (15) were also in double digits with Lincoln senior post Drew Sankey coming off the bench to supply 10 points in 16 minutes.
 
Besides Guiot's heroics, SBU got 17 points and five rebounds from junior guard Gilbert Gyamfi.
 
Emporia State (Wed.) and Central Oklahoma (Fri.) visit next week.
