SBU Sinks 14 Threes to Down UNK

Nadia Williams
Box Score Kearney, Neb. – The Southwest Baptist Bearcats went 14 of 24 from the three point line to defeat Nebraska-Kearney, 91-62, Saturday afternoon in Bolivar, Mo.

Coming off an upset win over NW Missouri State, SBU (8-9, 3-6) is now 7-2 at home while the Lopers fall to 5-12 (2-8).

Junior point guard Nicole Arp (Kearney H.S.) gave UNK a quick 8-0 lead when she hit two early three pointers. However, SBU more than turned the tables as they went 9 of 14 from behind the arc in the first half to open up a 50-28 lead.

The Bearcats entered the game averaging seven made threes per game. UNK has defended the perimeter shot well all season, holding teams to around 30%, save for a loss at Northeastern State (15 of 26) in early January.

Shooting 54% from the field, Southwest had six different players make at least one triple. Junior guard Tanis Spani (4 of 5) had the best effort with fellow starters Brittney Dukes (2 of 3) and Chasity Prince (3 of 4), and reserve Brook Duncan (3 of 6), combining for eight more.

Dukes (18) was one of five 'Cats to score in double figures with reserve guard Leann Lansdown handing out a game-high seven assists.

Losing the rebounding battle by eight and going 12 of 20 at the line, UNK saw senior post Nadia Williams (San Jose, Calif.) score a career-high 16 points on 7 of 12 shooting (2 for 4 threes).

Arp finished with three long range bombs to reach her career-high output (18) as well. Her previous career-high of 15 points came last Saturday in a win at Missouri Southern State. Arp has now reached double digits in three games this season.

She also led UNK in rebounds (eight), assists (four) and minutes played (34).

Kearney hosts Emporia State (Wed.) and Central Oklahoma (Fri.) next week.
