Box Score Kearney, Neb. – Senior guard Rachel Hanf scored 25 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to power Emporia State to a 88-53 win over Nebraska-Kearney Wednesday night at the Health & Sports Center.
Winning for a sixth time in its last seven games, Emporia improves to 11-6 (6-3) while the Lopers fall to 5-13 (2-9). This was the first meeting between the two in 13 years.
UNK used a balanced offensive attack, including nine points from senior post
Nadia Williams (San Jose, Calif.), to hang around in the first half. A layup by Williams cut the Emporia lead to eight, 27-19, at the 6:26 mark.
However, Emporia led 43-30 at the break and then the 5-9 Hanf took over, scoring 19 points in the second half on 6 of 7 (3 of 4 threes) field goal shooting. For the game, 11 of her rebounds came on the defensive end.
Tallying 40 of its points in the paint, ESU finished the night shooting 55% (32 of 58) from the field. Having a plus 19 rebounding margin, they also sunk 9 of 18 three pointers.
Besides Hanf, four others reached double digits, including reserves Desiree Wylie (12) and Sarah Wood (11).
Sophomore post
Melissa Norman (Elk Grove, Calif.) and freshman guard Sydney Seberger (Lexington) joined Williams as Lopers to score nine points. Norman also added five rebounds, three steals and a block.
UNK hosts Central Oklahoma (8-10, 1-9) Friday night.
