Box Score Kearney, Neb. – The Rockhurst University women's soccer team remained unbeaten on the year by scoring goals in each half to defeat Nebraska-Kearney, 2-0, Tuesday afternoon at Tranquility Park in Omaha.
Â
The Hawks, from Kansas City and the Great Lakes Valley Conference, improve to 6-0-2 while the Lopers fall to 4-5.
Â
Both teams had scoring chances in the first 25 minutes as Rockhurst keeper Ali Wallner had to make two saves while teammate Taylor Skala had a shot hit the post.
Â
In the 28th minute, reserve Brandi Van Booven got behind the Loper defense and managed to poke the ball into the net for her second goal of the season.
Â
About 30 minutes later, UNK sophomore reserve Meaghan Prasbrig (Chandler, Ariz.) lined up for a corner. She sent a ball that found Holdrege junior
Lauren Hoeft right in front of the Rockhurst goal.
Â
Hoeft's shot, like Skala's, managed to find iron instead of the back of the net. Â The Hawks then salted things away when Jessica Cook tallied a goal from just outside the box in the 82nd minute.
Â
"After a huge MIAA win on Sunday, playing well and scoring goals, we struggled to find any type of rhythm for most of today's match. We started well, created some scoring opportunities and could have been up a goal or two early," said UNK head coach
John Maessner. Â
Â
On the day, Pasbrig and fellow sophomores
Holly Brown (Glenwood Springs, Colo.) and
Montanna Hosterman (Papillion-LaVista South) each took two shots for the Lopers.
Â
"We seemed to run out of energy after 20 minutes, our legs got heavy and Rockhurst was able to capitalize on a couple of our mistakes. Â It's tough to travel and play two days after a big match. Â We will put it behind us and look to play well this weekend with two big conference matches."
UNK remains on the road this weekend with MIAA games at Emporia State and Washburn.
