Hot Shooting Orediggers Get Past UNK

Box Score Kearney, Neb. – All five starters scored in double figures to help the Colorado School of Mines men's basketball team beat Nebraska-Kearney, 104-69, Saturday night in Golden.

The Orediggers improve to 2-0 while the Lopers fall to 1-1.

Last year in Kearney, UNK beat the 'Diggers, 75-72, but this Mines team just got back several of its stars from its 29-2 team of two years ago.  They included guards Brett Green (12 points, three assists and three rebounds) and Trevor Ritchie (17 points, seven assists, three steals and two rebounds).

Never trailing, Mines closed the first half on a 13-6 run to lead 45-28 at the break. The stretch featured six made free throws, an area where the 'Diggers were 27 of 33 (82%).

Having a plus 12 rebounding margin and scoring 21 points off 16 UNK turnovers, Mines shot 53% (34 of 64) from the floor that included a 9 of 18 effort from downtown.

Posts Trevor Wages and Luke Meisch combined for 25 points and 16 rebounds with reserve Gokul Natesan having a team-high 18 points thanks to five made buckets and five made freebies.

UNK had three of its starters score more than 10 points in junior forward Tyler Shields (16), senior post Kendal Glidden (12) and sophomore wing Connor Beranek (10).

Beranek (Ravenna) also had a team-high six rebounds with Omaha freshman Josh Lallman having nine points and two assists off the bench.

UNK is at South Dakota Mines next Friday.
