Box Score Kearney, Neb. – Four Metro State women's basketball players scored in double figures as the Roadrunners held off the Nebraska-Kearney women's basketball team, 79-64, Saturday night in Denver.

This game was a part of the Metro State Classic. The Roadrunners (1-1) earn their first win of the year and beat the Lopers (3-2) for a sixth straight time.

UNK was down 61-46 but managed to make it an eight-point game with 2:45 left. A free throw by Trenton sophomore
Laramey Lewis (team-high 17 points) got the Lopers even closer, 69-62, but then things really got interesting.

After Metro got a steal and a bucket to make it 71-62, Beatrice senior
Shelby Zimmerman made one of two free throws. UNK had a chance to cut into the lead some more but turned the ball over.Â

The Lopers were then not only called for a foul but two technical fouls as well. That allowed Metro to make six straight freebies with 51 seconds left, pushing its lead back into double digits at 77-63. Â On the night, Metro was 30 of 32 at the line.

Scoring 27 points off 27 Kearney turnovers, Metro was led by guard Cassie Lambrecht, who had 20 thanks to four made three pointers and a 6 of 6 effort from the line.

Fellow starter Amy Nelson (15 points & eight rebounds) was close to a double double with reserves Tai Jensen and Elena Vasquez combining for 28 points, 12 rebounds, two assists and 13 of 14 free throw shooting.

Lewis went 7 of 13 from the field to reach her point total. She also had three steals and three rebounds with backcourt mate
Sarah Hix (11) in double digits for a second straight night. Â
