Box Score Kearney, Neb. – Seventh-ranked Nebraska-Kearney recorded nine blocks and hit .283 to sweep Emporia State (-12, -12, -19) Tuesday night at the Health & Sports Center.Â
UNK (25-3, 11-2) has now won 69 straight sets at home, including all 42 this season. Meanwhile, the Hornets fall to 15-9 (9-6).
On October 23rd in Kansas, ESU handed Central Missouri its only loss of the year, 3-1.
Â
Kearney didn't trail until falling behind 1-0 in the third set. The Lopers saw five different players have between six and 10 kills with the block total just one off the season-high effort. Â
This also marks the third time in the last four matches UNK has had at least eight team blocks.
Â
Having 13 of its 31 kills in the final set, ESU didn't go down quietly. A kill by Paige Vanderpool and an unforced Loper error made it just a 21-19 margin.
However, UNK scored the last four points of the match, the last being a block by senior
Ellie Pesavento (Omaha Marian) and sophomore
MJ Massanet (Manhattan, Kans.).
Â
Both Massanet and senior
Katie Sokolowski (Kearney Catholic) had four blocks with Pesavento and freshman
Bailey Sokolowski at three apiece. Finally, sophomore setter
Erin Seele (Johnstown, Colo.) had a solo stuff.
Â
Running an offense that had 42 kills, Seele had six of her own to go along with 30 assists, 10 digs and an ace. She also didn't have an error in 10 attempts (.600).
Â
Also on offense, Massanet and the older Sokolowski each had 10 kills with senior outside
Ashley Leitner (Lincoln SW) providing seven.
Â
UNK is at NW Missouri State Saturday afternoon. The Lopers then host No. 11 Washburn next Tuesday night.
