Box Score Kearney, Neb. – Senior forward Dominique Mosley scored 22 points and the Missouri Southern State women's basketball team took advantage of 27 turnovers to rally past Nebraska-Kearney, 76-72, Thursday night in Joplin.

This was the MIAA opener for both clubs. Southern (6-1) has now won six in a row while the Lopers (3-4) have lost three straight.
UNK went inside to junior
Amarah Williams (St. Louis) early and often and she responded, scoring 12 of her 22 points by the break. Thanks to her play, Kearney led the entire first half and by scores of 17-8 and 26-13.

However, Southern used a 15-3 run to get back into the game by halftime. The spurt was aided by four Loper turnovers.

The second half featured eight ties with neither team leading by more than five points. After the Lions moved ahead, a three by senior guard
Sarah Hix (Broomfield, Colo.) tied the game at 64 with 3:26 to play.

UNK had a chance to take the lead but a steal, and two subsequent free throws by guard Kenya Brown, gave the Lions the lead for good. Another Loper turnover followed and the Lions sunk two more freebies to go up by four.

Down 68-67 with 1:44 left to play, Kearney had one more chance to take the lead as Southern missed a layup. However, the Lopers turned the ball over, allowing Alexis Fitzpatrick to nail a jumper with 53 seconds to go. Â
Southern then went 4 of 4 at the line to close out the game.

Standing 6-1 and averaging 19.5 points per game, Mosley reached her point total by going 10 of 18 from the field and 2 of 2 at the line. Playing a team-high 37 minutes, she also had seven rebounds (six defensive) and four steals.

Fitzpatrick (13) and Minnesota transfer Sharese Jones (16) also scored in double figures with guard Nicole Hartzog and Fitzpatrick each having four steals.

Shooting 52% (13 of 25) from the field in the second half, Southern won the rebounding battle by one, 35-34, and went 21 of 28 at the line. UNK made over half its shots in the second half (13 of 24) after going 11 of 32 (34%) over the first 20 minutes.

Williams had her best game as a Loper, scoring 22 points thanks to 9 of 12 field goal shooting and a 4 of 4 effort at the line. She also led the team with six boards (four defensive). Â

Next, Lexington sophomore Sydney Seberger had 12 points on 5 of 8 (2 of 2 threes) shooting) and also supplied three steals, three boards and two assists. Â
Finally, Trenton sophomore
Laramey Lewis had 11 points and was one of three Lopers to go 4 of 4 at the line.

The Lopers are at Southwest Baptist Saturday afternoon. The Bearcats fell to 3-3 after a 78-71 loss to 20th-ranked Washburn tonight.
