Box Score Kearney, Neb. – Southwest Baptist shot 52% from the field and overcame 24 turnovers to beat Nebraska-Kearney, 85-66, Saturday afternoon in Bolivar, Mo.
With the victory, SBU improves to 4-3 (1-1) while the Lopers (3-5, 0-2) drop a fourth straight. Â
Leading for the final 38 minutes, Southwest had five score in double digits incla douding uble double from 6-0 sophomore guard Brook Duncan (11 points and 13 rebounds).
A jumper by Lexington sophomore Sydney Seberger capped a 6-0 Loper run midway through the first half to make it 27-23 Bearcats.
UNK then trailed by just a 28-27 score before sophomore guard Dilonna Johnson hit two threes over a two minute span as part of a 10-0 SBU spurt.
Ahead 44-29 at the break, SBU never lead its advantage get below 10 points in the second half. The 'Cats finished 35 of 67 from the field (6 of 15 threes) and had a plus 13 rebounding margin, 44-31.
Kearney scored 23 points off those 24 SBU miscues but the Lopers had 20 turnovers themselves. Offensively, UNK shot 42% (27 of 65) from the floor and 59% (10 of 17) at the line.
Besides Duncan and Johnson (13 points, six assists, four rebounds and three assists), SBU got 22 points, six boards and four steals from 6-2 freshman post Mackenzie Skupa. She went 9 of 13 from the field and 4 of 4 at the line to reach her game-high point total.
For UNK, junior post
Amarah Williams (St. Louis, Mo.) had another big effort, going 7 of 10 from the field and 2 of 2 at the line to end with 16 points. She also had five rebounds, three blocks, two steals and an assist.
Next, Seberger (13) had her third straight double digit effort with senior guard
Nicole Arp having a season-best nine points coming off the bench. Six Loper reserves tallied 25 points, 12 boards and seven steals.
UNK hosts Lincoln University next Saturday night.
