Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Kearney, Neb. – Metro State scored three unearned runs in the bottom of the seventh inning in game two to sweep a double header from Nebraska-Kearney, 11-4 and 5-4, Tuesday afternoon in Denver.

These were the Lopers first two games of the year. Metro, which went 1-2 against MIAA-member Fort Hays State last week, improves to 3-2.

Lincoln senior Adam Peters staked UNK to a 4-2 lead as he threw six strong innings in the night cap. Coming off a five-win season, he fanned two, walked none and gave up just five hits.

However, the first two Roadrunners reached base in the seventh via single and a dropped fly ball. After a sac bunt, number nine hitter Jeff Levett walked on four pitches.

It became a one-run UNK lead after senior shortstop Erik Cammall worked junior Dalton Cowen (Gillette, Wyo.) to a full count and then took ball four. A fielder's choice tied things up and, after an intentional walk, senior left fielder Alex Schrupp (3 for 4) delivered a game winning single to right.

Besides Schrupp, sophomore first baseman Danny Miller went 2 for 3 and three 'Runners combined to throw a three-hitter.

UNK had a chance to add some insurance runs in the top of the seventh as it had runners at second and third with one out.  But sophomore Patrick Gojan came in and got back-to-back strikeouts to end the threat.

In the Loper third, senior catcher Chandler Klute (Kearney H.S.) delivered a two-run double to left to make it a 2-1 game. Grand Island sophomore DH Max Ayoub followed with an RBI ground out and, in the fourth, sophomore center fielder Brandon Landanger (Kearney H.S.) had a sac fly.

In the first game, Metro's first four hitters were a combined 8 for 17 with six runs scored and four RBI's. The Roadrunners, taking advantage of eight walks, also saw Miller go 3 for 4.  

The 'Runners scored three in the first, two more in the second and then erupted for five in the third. On the mound, sophomore starter Mike Thill (2-0) fanned six in six full innings with two relievers combining for four more K's over the final three innings.

UNK did see sophomore catcher/third baseman Danny Droll (Penrose, Colo.) go 3 for 4 with two runs scored. He belted his first collegiate homer, a solo shot, in the sixth inning.

The Lopers host Lincoln U. to start MIAA play this weekend at Memorial Field.
