Loper Hurler Throws Rare No No

Box Score Kearney, Neb. – Nebraska-Kearney senior  Becky Dunn threw the Lopers first no-hitter in 13 years when she shut out Ouachita Baptist (pronounced Wash-uh-taw), 2-0, Thursday afternoon at the 7-State Classic in Bentonville, Ark.
 
The 19-team tournament is being hosted by Arkansas-Monticello and the City of Bentonville. UNK (1-2) will play eight games over four days at two different complexes.
 
Dunn (Papillion-LaVista South H.S.) struck out seven Tigers (3-6) and walked just two. She retired the final eight batters with the last out being a ground ball to junior third baseman Sarah Rome (Blair).  
 
Overall, Dunn had nine fly ball outs and five ground outs.
 
On February 26, 2000, Amanda Kelly and Emily Brockman combined for a five inning no-hitter in a 14-0 win over Colorado-Colorado Springs. In April 1999, Kelly threw a perfect game in a 2-0 win over Colorado State-Pueblo.
 
OBU, from Arkadelphia, Ark., got a complete game four hitter from junior Abbi Frakes. She struck out six and blanked UNK over the last four innings.
 
In the top of the third, UNK scored two unearned runs via two errors, a fielder's choice and an RBI single from junior catcher Jen Kramer (North Platte).

Grand Island junior left fielder Mackenzie Tomlin went 2 for 4 from the second spot in the order, upping her season average to .454 (5 for 11).
