Seniors Finish in Style

Nadia Williams
Box Score Kearney, Neb. – Seniors Ivy Jones and Nadia Williams combined for 33 points to help Nebraska-Kearney roll past Lindenwood, 89-74, Friday night at the Health & Sports Center.

The Lopers end the year at 7-18 (4-14) while the Lions finish 4-22 (1-17).

UNK simply didn't miss in the first half, making 21 of 32 shots (65.6%) to score 53 points. That included a ridiculous 9 of 12 (75.0%) effort from behind the arc. The strong perimeter shooting was a team effort as six different players made at least one triple.

Three of the long range bombs came from Williams (San Jose, Calif.), a six-foot post. She finished the night a perfect 7 of 7 (3 of 3 threes) from the field while also grabbing seven boards (six defensive) and having four dimes.

UNK's only three attempt in the second half was by Williams, who nailed it at the 18:34 mark to give the Lopers a 56-35 lead.

Led by sophomore Julie Hlinak (game-high 26 points) and some full court pressure, the Lions tried to mount a comeback. A three-point play by guard Jenny Rocha made it a 70-55 game with 9:11 to play.

The Lopers scored the next five, four coming from junior guard Nicole Arp (Kearney), to quickly end the LWU comeback.

A point guard, Jones (Vallejo, Calif.) went 5 of 10 from the floor and 6 of 7 at the line to tally 18 points. She also had two rebounds, two assists and a steal.

Arp had one of her better games as Loper, finishing with 12 points, nine assists and four rebounds with reserve sophomore post Queen Ohamara (Lincoln North Star) at 15 points and nine rebounds.

Hlinak was 10 of 20 from the floor (5 of 10 threes) to reach her point total. She also had a team-high seven rebounds.
