Box Score 2 Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney softball team lost to William Jewell College, 6-2, and Central Missouri, 11-3 (5 innings), at the Border Battle Tournament Saturday in Joplin, Mo.
Due to weather, all of Sunday's games were canceled. UNK is now 4-10 on the young season.
The Cardinals (5-4), a D2 newcomer from Liberty, Mo., jumped on the Lopers in the first game of the day, scoring four of its runs in the top of the first. The big inning came thanks to four hits (three singles), a walk and hit batter.
Sophomore
Brittnie Kreiser (Council Bluffs, Ia.) held WJC in check after that allowing, two earned in 6.2 innings of relief work. However, junior Corinne Frei threw a complete game four-hitter for the Cards. She fanned seven and walked three in blanking UNK for the first three innings.
Freshman first baseman Katie Ruwe (Blair) did go 2 for 3 and hit her third homer of the year.
In a non-MIAA contest, the Jennies (7-6) led the Lopers, 4-3, after three and a half innings. They busted things open when they scored six runs in the fourth, four being of the unearned variety.
Sophomore Jessica Wilkes, a transfer from Division I Eastern Michigan, threw a five-inning complete game, allowing six hits and a walk. Bennington junior
Bailey Backhuus (1-4) took the loss, allowing five earned in three full innings of work.
