Box Score 2 Kearney, Neb. – Junior third baseman
Sarah Rome delivered a one-out, walk off bunt single to help Nebraska-Kearney take the first game of a double header from Wayne State, 8-7, Wednesday afternoon at Dryden Park.
Behind a complete game five hitter from Kelcie Bormann, the Wildcats (9-5) took the second game by a 6-1 score. The Lopers, playing its first home games of the 2013 season, are now 6-14.
On a cold but clear day, things started off great for Wayne as they used four hits, a walk and Loper error to score four times in the top of the first in game one. The big hit was a two-out triple by Bormann (2 for 4), who also scored on the play thanks to a UNK fielding miscue.
The Lopers quickly rallied, scoring four unearned runs in its half of the second. Junior center fielder and lead off hitter
Whitney Frederick (3 for 4) things with a two-run single. However, Wayne grabbed the momentum right back with a three-run third. Shortstop Sam O'Brien (2 for 4) hit her fourth homer of the year, a two-run shot, to make it a 7-4 game.
Frederick (Blair) hit a two-run dinger in the Loper fourth and then Rome (Blair) tied things up again by leading off the fifth with her third homer of the season. Finally, Frederick led off the seventh with a single to left center. Redshirt freshman
Makenzie Ault (Ovid, Colo.) promptly stole her 11
th base of the year and then moved to third on fly ball hit to right.
That brought up Rome (Blair), who promptly ended the game by successfully getting down a "suicide squeeze" bunt. Grand Island sophomore
Taryn Trosper earned the win by throwing four innings of scoreless relief.
Bormann is now 8-4 as a pitcher as she shut out UNK over the final six innings of game two. Fanning eight and walking just one, she gave up only two hits after the first inning. At the plate, she went 2 for 3 with two runs scored.
Wayne used five hits to score four times in the top of the fourth, the big hit being a two-run double by left fielder Vicki Nielsen (2 for 4).

UNK is supposed to host 16
th-ranked Central Oklahoma and Northeastern State this weekend but weather likely will change that schedule.
