Alex Sosa to sweep a double header from Washburn, 2-1 (8 innings) and 8-2, Wednesday afternoon in Manhattan, Kans.
UNK (14-11, 14-8) has won five of its last seven while the Ichabods slip to 5-16 (5-15). Due to weather, the games were pushed back a day and moved to Kansas State.
In game one, the Lopers played its fifth straight one-run game. Washburn grabbed the early lead thanks to a two-out, RBI infield single in the fourth.
Coming from behind in its last at-bat yet again, UNK forced extra innings as sophomore center fielder
Brandon Landanger (2 for 4) hit a one-out double to center and then scored when Washburn couldn't field a ground ball with two outs.
To score the winning run, sophomore SS
Dillon Schroeder (Kearney) was plunked to start the eighth. Moving to second on a sac bunt and then going to third thanks to an Ichabod error, Schroeder crossed home plate when freshman right fielder
Anthony Pacheco (2 for 5) hit a two-out single to right.
Last Wednesday, Pacheco walked off Fort Hays State with a two-run homer.
Wyoming junior
Dalton Cowen (5-2) had his second straight solid start, allowing only one earned in seven innings. Fanning five and walking just two, he gave up just five hits.
North Platte redshirt freshman
Joe Smidt tossed the eighth to earn his second save of the spring.
From the clean up spot, Wuest went 3 for 3 with two runs and four RBI's in the night cap. Belting his 11th homer of the year, the first baseman was the only Loper to have more than one hit in the win.
Washburn scored two unearned runs off of Sosa (1-1) in the first and then were shut out the rest of the way. Sosa (Miami, Fla.) struck out six and gave up eight hits in six innings with Smidt working a scoreless seventh.
