Danny Droll
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Kearney, Neb. – Sophomores Max Ayoub and Danny Droll combined for eight RBI's to help Nebraska-Kearney take the second game of a double header with Emporia State, 13-4, Friday afternoon at Memorial Field.

The Hornets (14-14, 12-11) got a complete game seven-hitter from Dakota McKaskie to win the first game, 6-2.

Leading the night cap from start to finish, UNK got out to a 2-0 lead in the second when Droll (3 for 5, two runs & three RBI's) scored on an ESU error and junior DH Jayke Brock (3 for 5) delivered an RBI single.

The Lopers busted things wide open in the fourth by crossing home plate five times. From the leadoff spot, Ayoub (3 for 5, two runs & five RBI's) hit a two-run double to right center and then Droll (Florence, Colo.) smacked a three-run double to left center.

On the day, the teams combined for 18 doubles.

After Eric Dawson hit a three-run dinger for Emporia in the top of the fifth, Ayoub (Grand Island) returned the favor by hitting his fourth homer of the year, a two-run shot to left, in the bottom of the inning.

UNK then scored two more times in the seventh and eighth innings. Also for the Lopers, junior left fielder Reid Carter (Castle Rock, Colo.) went 2 for 3 with three runs from the nine hole.

On the mound, redshirt freshman Drew Postgate (Greeley, Colo.) struck out six in 4.2 innings. Striking out the side in the second, his day ended when he “kicked saved” a come backer and threw to first for the out in the fifth.

Sophomore Ross Mortensen (Colo. Springs, Colo.) earned his second win as the Loper bull pen allowed two earned over the final 4.1 innings.

Improving to 4-3 on the season, McKaskie shut out UNK for the first three innings. Working out of a bases loaded jam in the second, he struck out six and didn't walk a batter.

At the plate, second baseman Blake Sturgeon went 4 for 4 with two runs and right fielder Aaron Rea was 3 for 4. The Hornets scored three in the first, thanks to four hits, and added runs in the second, fourth and seventh innings.
