Box Score Kearney, Neb. – Senior right fielder
Brian Wuest had seven RBI's and the Nebraska-Kearney baseball team scored 12 runs in one inning to beat Pittsburg State, 14-7, Monday afternoon in Kansas.
The wins helps the Lopers (5-5, 5-3) get back to .500 for the season and salvage the last game of the three-game series.
These games were originally set for Memorial Field but moved to Pitt due to weather. UNK was thus the home team for all three games.
Pitt State (5-2, 3-2), who used six different pitchers, seemingly was in control as they led 5-0 after 2 ½ innings. The Gorillas got out to that cushion thanks to seven hits, two Loper errors and a walk and hit batter.
Sophomore short stop
Dillon Schroeder (3 for 4) led of the UNK third with a single to right center. After an out, a key error on a ground ball not only moved Schroeder to third but helped set the stage for an inning that wouldn't end.
The Lopers had seven more hits as well as taking advantage of a walk and hit batter. Ten of the runs would come after two were out; UNK scored six runs with two outs in Saturday's 13-10 loss.
Finally, because of that error, 10 of the runs were unearned.
Both Schroeder and junior second baseman
Scott Jameson (2 for 3) had two run singles in the third and then Wuest (3 for 4) hit a Grand Slam to finish the scoring. The 2012 All-American is 15 for his last 29 (.517) and hit a homer in five of his last six games, including the last three.
North Platte redshirt freshman
Joe Smidt earned his first collegiate win by allowing two earned in five innings of relief work.
UNK plays a double header against Missouri Western State on Wednesday. The games have been moved to the neutral site of Springfield, Mo., due to weather and field conditions in St. Joseph.
First pitch will be at 10:00 a.m.
