Kearney, Neb. – The Central Oklahoma Bronchos scored five runs over the final two innings to out slug Nebraska-Kearney, 15-11, Sunday afternoon in Edmond, Okla.
With the win, UCO (22-16, 18-15) took all three games from the Lopers (19-18, 16-15) this weekend.
On an 80 degree day with some wind, the two teams combined for an astonishing 11 home runs. The top of the UCO order again was tough on the Lopers as the four some of Tyler Crabtree, Matt Johnson, Cesar Wong and Wacey Henderson went a combined 10 for 18 with nine runs and eight RBI's.
On Saturday, UCO's top four hitters went 14 of 27 with 14 runs and 11 RBI's.
Both Crabtree, the UCO lead off hitter, and Johnson, the number two hitter in the lineup, went yard twice with Wong starting the bottom of the eight with a dinger.
UNK grabbed an 11-10 lead when freshman right fielder
Anthony Pacheco (3 for 5, three runs) hit a one-out homer in the top of the seventh.
The lead was short lived as pinch hitter Ryan Stroup delivered a one-out, two run double in the bottom of the inning. Crabtree (2 for 3, four runs, two RBI's) then followed with a homer to left.
For the Lopers, senior first baseman
Brian Wuest (3 for 5) and junior third baseman
Mike Kattula (Sterling Heights, Mich.) each hit three-run homers with sophomores
Danny Droll (Penrose, Colo.) and
Max Ayoub (Grand Island) having three hits a piece.
Kearney is supposed to host NW Missouri State Wednesday afternoon at Memorial Field but the impending winter storm will likely move, or cancel, those games.
