Northwest Takes Two from Baseball

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Kearney, Neb. – The NW Missouri State baseball team got strong pitching performances from Austin Warren and Rob Henrichs to take a double header from Nebraska-Kearney, 4-3 (8 innings) and 7-1, Tuesday afternoon at a cold Memorial Field.

With the wins, the Bearcats (16-25, 13-22) avenge two home losses to the Lopers (19-20, 16-17) earlier this spring.

A junior right hander, Warren didn't earn the win in game one but he allowed just three earned on seven hits and no walks in 5.1 innings. Lefty Blaine Reutter and closer Nate Horton (1-2) then came in and shut out UNK for the last 2.2 innings.

Down 3-0, the Lopers tied things up with a three-run fourth that featured three hits and RBI's by senior catcher Chandler Klute (Kearney) and junior shortstop Scott Jameson (Lovell, Wyo.).

This contest was slated to last seven innings but neither team could push across the winning run in regulation. In the top of the eighth, designated hitter Eric McGlauflin moved into scoring position thanks to a one-out, two base Loper error.

Left fielder Charlie Kreuger, who entered the game in the fifth, promptly delivered a single to left to finish the scoring. Klute gave UNK hope in the bottom of the inning with a two out single. However, a deep blast to right by senior DH Eric Ringblom (Omaha) was held up by the wind and caught for the final out.

Junior lefty Kyle LaClaire (Orland, Calif.) threw well in a rare start, allowing three earned in 4.2 innings. At the plate, junior second baseman Danny Droll (Penrose, Colo.) and sophomore left fielder Max Ayoub (Grand Island) each had two hits.

Henrichs (2-1) gave up a first inning run in the night cap but then blanked UNK for the next five. A freshman right hander, he struck out four, walked none and surrendered five hits. Third baseman Eric Swain, in addition to several fine defensive plays, went 2 for 3 with two runs and three RBI's to spark the NW offense.

Jameson (0-2) was the tough luck loser as he shut out Northwest for three innings after giving up two in the top of the first. This was just his second appearance on the mound as a Loper.

Junior center fielder Brandon Landanger (Kearney) paced the offense by going 2 for 3 with a run scored.

UNK plays three at Northeastern State this weekend and then finishes the regular season next weekend at home with three games vs. Southwest Baptist.
