Box Score 2 Kearney, Neb. – Freshman right fielder
Anthony Pacheco delivered a walk-off sac fly in the 10th inning to help Nebraska-Kearney beat Southwest Baptist, 4-3, in the second game of a double header Friday evening at Memorial field.
Behind a five-hit complete game by Justin Pasichnyk, SBU won the first game, 6-1.
The two teams are now 18-20 in MIAA play, meaning both are eliminated from postseason contention. Fort Hays State finished its MIAA slate at 19-19.
In game two, UNK (21-23) took advantage of some SBU (20-26) indecision to score three runs in its half of the fourth.
With two down, Pacheco (2 for 4) hit a ball to right center that Bearcat second baseman Landon Young snagged. However, his teammates didn't cover first, allowing Pacheco to reach via infield single.
After another single and walk, senior first baseman
Eric Ringblom (Omaha) hit a two-run single to right. SBU then dropped an infield pop-up to score another Loper.
UNK returned the favor in the ninth as the 'Cats scored two unearned runs thanks to two errors. SBU's leading hitter on the season, third baseman Spencer Blacksher, delivered a two out, two run single up the middle to knot things at three.
The Lopers left the potential winning running stranded t second in the ninth but loaded the bases with no outs in the 10th.
After sophomore second baseman
Danny Droll (Penrose, Colo.) left off the 10th with a single, SBU tried to throw him out on a sac bunt attempt. However, the Bearcat shortstop didn't touch the base, putting two runners on. A hit-by-pitch followed and then Pacheco lofted a ball to left to bring home Droll.
North Platte redshirt freshman
Joe Smidt (4-3) didn't allow an earned run in two innings to earn the win with junior starter
Alex Sosa (Miami, Fla.) giving up just one earned in 6.2 innings.
SBU controlled game one as the first four Bearcats reached base with clean-up hitter Bo Helsel (3 for 3) hitting a three-run double down the right field line.
Pacheco hit a sac fly in the bottom of the first to cut into the deficit but Pasichnyk (5-4) shut out the Lopers after that, allowing just five hits and no walks with one strikeout.
Gering junior Carolos Palomo (3-4) settled down and allowed four earned in five innings on five walks and four hits with five K's.
The regular season concludes Saturday with a single nine inning game starting at noon.
