Baseball Rolls in Season Finale

Brian Wuest
Box Score Kearney, Neb. – Sophomore Michael Hahn struck out 13 in tossing a five-hit complete game, and senior Brian Wuest drove in four, to help Nebraska-Kearney beat Southwest Baptist, 10-1, Saturday afternoon at Memorial Field.

The Lopers end the year at 22-23 (19-20) while the Bearcats finish at 20-27 (18-21).

Earning his second win and tossing UNK's first complete game of 2013, Hahn's day got off to a rocky start as the first three SBU players singled. He fanned the next two to keep the damage at a run and then blanked the 'Cats the next eight innings.

Hahn (2-4), from Fremont, struck out at least one batter in eight of the nine innings and walked just three.

Offensively, the Lopers scored five in the second, one in the third and fourth innings and three more in the seventh. Wuest (2 for 4, two runs) cleared the bases in the second with a double to left center and then blasted his 15th homer deep over the right field fence in the fourth.

Batting a spot ahead of Wuest in the lineup, sophomore second baseman Danny Droll (Penrose, Colo.) knocked in three runs with senior first baseman Eric Ringblom (Omaha) going 2 for 4 with two runs.

Besides Wuest and Ringblom, UNK's other seniors are infielder Brandon Pacheco and Chandler Klute. Unfortunately, Klute was under the weather today and couldn't take the field.
