Box Score Kearney, Neb. – Pittsburg State junior lefty Lizzy Jeronimus scored 31 points to help the Gorillas outlast Nebraska-Kearney, 83-73 in overtime, Wednesday night in Kansas.

Pitt improves to 12-6 (5-3), which includes a 6-1 mark at home. Meanwhile, the Lopers fall to 6-10 (3-7).

In a game that featured 12 lead changes and eight ties, both teams had a chance to win the game in regulation. But, the Lopers turned the ball over with 26 seconds left and Jeronimus missed a jumper with four ticks left on the clock, keeping it tied at 66.

Among the MIAA's top players the past three years, Jeronimus didn't miss in overtime, going 4 of 4 from the field and 3 of 3 at the line. The 5-11 forward scored the first five points in overtime and UNK didn't get the deficit under two the rest of the way.

A three by senior guard Sarah Hix (Broomfield, Colo.) with 54 seconds left gave the Lopers a glimmer of hope as that made it 76-73. However, Pitt's Alexa Bordewick responded with a trey 30 seconds later to seal the deal.

To reach her point total, Jeronimus went 10 of 23 from the field (0 of 1 threes) and 11 of 13 at the line. She also had seven rebounds, two steals and an assist in a team-high 35 minutes.

Hix almost matched Jeronimus as she tallied a career-high 28 thanks to five made triples. Finishing 10 of 16 from the floor, she also went 3 of 4 at the line and had two assists and two boards in 31 minutes.

The 28 points is the most by a Loper since Debi Johnson tallied 30 in February 2012. Hix's previous career-high of 19 was set last year vs. Washburn.

UNK led by seven early in the first half, only to see Pitt lead by four by the four minute mark. Thanks to back-to-back triples by Hix, the Lopers held its biggest lead of the night, 41-31, at the 16:48 mark of the second half.

The Gorillas tied things up just three minutes later and neither team pulled away until Pitt did in overtime.

Besides Hix, Beatrice senior Shelby Zimmerman had 15 points, six rebounds and three steals with Missouri junior post Amarah Williams at 11 points, nine rebounds and four blocks.

Finally, Trenton sophomore Laramey Lewis (seven points, seven assists, four rebounds, two steals) filled up the box score.

Besides Jeronimus, Pitt got 17 points and eight rebounds from 6-1 sophomore Cathy Brugman and 10 points from reserve guard Brigit Hesser.

UNK hosts South Dakota Mines Friday night.
