Mules Use Big 2nd Half to Defeat Men's Basketball

Box Score Kearney, Neb. – Central Missouri used a big second half, and scored 37 points off 25 turnovers, to beat Nebraska-Kearney, 85-65, Saturday afternoon in Warrensburg.

UCM, an NCAA Tournament squad a year ago, improves to 11-2 (3-1) while UNK falls to 4-6 (2-3).

Coming in averaging just under 14 turnovers per game, Kearney had 12 by the break and 13 more in the second half. Despite the miscues, UNK trailed by only one, 38-37, at the half and then scored the opening bucket of the final 20 minutes.

The Mules, however, hit three treys in less than a minute to lead 57-47 with 14:47 to play. They then continued this momentum, going on a 16-3 run to lead by 23 six minutes later.

Recording 14 steals and having just 11 turnovers, Central Missouri went 24 of 32 (75.0%) at the line and made 15 of its 28 second half shots (53.6%).

Individually, three starters and one reserve were in double digits, led by senior guard Daylen Robinson, a Texas Tech transfer.

He finished with 26 points, seven assists, four steals and four rebounds in 30 minutes of action. To his point total, he was 7 of 10 from the field (2 of 2 3's) and 10 of 12 at the line.

Off the bench, junior guard TJ White had 15 points, a team-best nine rebounds (six offensive) and three steals.

UNK shot 41.8% from the field (23 of 55) and was out rebounded by just one, 34-33. In his first game since the end of the 2011-12 season, sophomore forward Ethan Brozek had team-highs in points (15) and rebounds (seven).

Among the starters, junior forward Tyler Shields had 14 points thanks to four made treys and Omaha senior post Mike Dentlinger supplied seven points and five boards.

UNK is at Missouri Western State Monday night.
