Box Score Kearney, Neb. – Four starters scored in double figures and the Nebraska Kearney women's basketball team had a plus six rebounding margin to defeat Lindenwood, 73-67, Thursday night in St. Charles, Mo.

The Lopers (5-5, 1-2) are now 4-1 on the road this season and improve to 3-0 all-time against the Lions (6-3, 0-3).

Leading for nearly the entire night, including 40-35 at the break, UNK found itself down 53-48 midway through the second half. Kearney hung around and then grabbed a 59-57 lead with 6:07 to go after a bucket by sophomore forward Kelsey Fitzgerald (Yankton, S.D.).

Lindenwood came back to lead 65-63, only to see the Lopers grab the lead for good when junior guard Laramey Lewis (Trenton) made a layup with 2:35 left to make it 67-65.

UNK went 4 of 7 at the line down the stretch with the Lions committing a key intentional foul at the 41 second mark to allow the Lopers to take two free throws and keep possession of the ball.

Lindenwood came in with a plus 9.8 rebounding margin but UNK won the battle on the glass, 43-37. That included 15 offensive caroms, leading to 10 points. The Lopers did commit 23 turnovers but had just one in the last seven minutes.

"We were a bit careless with the ball but, down the stretch, the girls played like veterans," said UNK head coach Kevin Chaney. "We needed to be aggressive; there was a quick whistle tonight so we needed to drive. Early on, we didn't want to drive and were settling for perimeter shots."

Lewis went 6 of 9 from the field and 5 of 6 at the line to tally a team-high 19 points. She also had seven rebounds (four offensive), three steals and two assists. Backcourt mate Alexa Hogberg (Chandler, Ariz.) chipped in with 15 points, four defensive rebounds, three assists and two steals.

In the post, senior Amarah Williams (St. Louis, Mo.) returned home and had 15 points and four rebounds before fouling out late. Finally, Fitzgerald had 12 points and Loper highs in blocks (four) and rebounds (nine).

The 2014 MIAA Freshman of the Year, 5-10 guard Kassidy Gengenbacher, carried Lindenwood as she had 37 points on 11 of 27 (1 of 9 threes) shooting. Also going 14 of 17 at the line, she had a game-high five steals and two offensive rebounds in 36 minutes.

LWU also got 17 rebounds (10 defensive) from 5-11 junior forward Vanessa Zailo. She came in averaging 14 rebounds per game.

UNK is at Lincoln Saturday afternoon. The Blue Tigers (5-3, 0-3) fell 61-46 to 8th-ranked Washburn tonight.
