Lopers Win Once in Arkansas Tournament

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney softball team went 1-5 at the 8-State Classic this weekend in Bentonville, Ark.
 
After beating William Jewell of Missouri, 12-3, and falling to tournament host Arkansas Monticello, 8-2, on Friday, the Lopers lost to Rockhurst, 6-1, and to Minnesota-Duluth, 5-4, on Saturday before setbacks to a pair of Oklahoma schools on Sunday; 1-0 to Southern Nazarene and 13-1 to East Central.

Against Duluth, the Lopers were one out away from a 4-3 win. However, pinch hitter Ashley Schilling drilled a two-run double in the bottom of the sixth and then Cayli Sadler tossed a scoreless seventh to give UMD the win.

The Bulldog sixth started with a pinch hit single by Ashley Lewis.
 
Loper leadoff hitter Mackenzie Tomlin (Grand Island) went 2 for 4 with fellow Islander Trayn Trosper going the distance, blanking UMD for four straight innings.
 
On Sunday morning, UNK's Brittnie Kreiser (Council Bluffs, Ia.) and Southern Nazarene's Andee Frazier were locked into a pitcher's duel.

Both went the distance, combining for nine K's, three walks and 10 hits. Frazier allowed just two of the hits with the only run scoring in the top of the first.
 
The Crimson Storm's first three hitters were a combined 4 for 10 and they each hit singles in the first. Designated player Hannah LeBeau was 2 for 3 and had the RBI base knock.

East Central, from the Great American Confrence, hit back-to-back-to-back homers in the first to quickly grab the momentum. Later, nine hole hitterJordynn Van Pelt hit a two-run shot to finish 2 for 3 with four RBI's.

The Lopers did get a solo dinger from North Platte senior catcher Jen Kramer in the second.
 
UNK heads indoors next weekend to take part in the Regional Crossover & Kelly Laas Memorial Invite in St. Cloud, Minn.
