Box Score Kearney, Neb. – Sophomore lefty Terrence Moore scored 27 points and Emporia State had a plus 21 rebounding margin to defeat Nebraska-Kearney,
92-83, Wednesday night in Kansas.
Â
With the win, the Hornets (16-11, 9-8) improve to 11-2 at home and avenge a 66-65 loss to the Lopers (12-11, 8-8) on February 1st.
Â
Having dropped five of six, E-State played like a team that needed a win as they led from start to finish, putting a stamp on the victory with a late 12-2 run to open up a 15 point cushion.Â
Â
Things were a bit physical and chippy throughout; late in the contest, Moore was ejected, as was an Emporia fan.
Â
A 6-2 athletic guard who made 6 of 7 shots in the February 1st game, Moore went 13 of 18 (1 of 4 threes) from the field to score 12 over his season average. Backcourt mate Kaleb Wright, averaging 19 points per game, provided 20 points, six assists and six rebounds.
Â
Both teams shot well, Emporia coming in at 56.7% (38 of 67) and the Lopers at 53.4% (31 of 54). Not an especially strong perimeter shooting team, seven different Hornets made at least one triple with 6-1 sophomore Micah Swank hitting three.
Â
On the glass, Emporia grabbed 39 boards (16 offensive), leading to 16 second chance points. UNK came in with a plus 2.5 rebound margin and hadn't been out boarded by double figures since December 5th.
Â
For the Lopers, freshman guard
Kevin Dineen had a perfect shooting night (5 of 5 FG's, 2 of 2 threes, 1 of 1 FT's) to tally 13, tying a season-high. He also had two steals and an assist.
Â
Fellow Omaha native
Mike Dentlinger scored a team-high 20 as he was 9 of 16 from the floor with junior point
Davion Pearson (Las Vegas, Nev.) warming up late to have 16 points and six assists.Â

UNK is at Fort Hays State Saturday afternoon.
