Box Score Kearney, Neb. – The NW Missouri State Bearcats recorded 18 hits in a 13-6 win over Nebraska-Kearney Friday afternoon in Coffeyville, Kans.
This was the MIAA opener for both. The four-game series was moved from Kearney to Coffeyville C.C. due to weather and field conditions.
The Bearcats (4-3) saw eight of its starters have at least one hit with seven knocking in one or more runs. Leadoff hitter Brandon Huskey (4 for 6, three runs) and left fielder Austin Wulf (4 for 4, three runs & two RBI's) did the most damage.
Northwest tallied runs in five innings, scoring two in the second, four in the fourth and three in both the seventh and eighth innings.
Senior southpaw Ryker Fox (1-1) earned the win by fanning four and walking one over 6.1 innings. He allowed two earned on eight hits and blanked the Lopers for five straight innings.
UNK did cross home plate five times in its half of the seven, thanks to five walks. However, they left the bases full in that inning as well as in the sixth.
