Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney softball team fell to Augustana, 5-2, and Wayne State, 11-2 (6 innings), Friday at the Kelly Laas Memorial Invite in St. Cloud, Minn.

Playing on an artificial surface and inside the Husky Dome, the Lopers (1-7) committed nine errors on the day, leading to 12 unearned runs.

In game one, UNK erased a 1-0 deficit in the bottom of the first as they took advantage of two Viking errors to score two runs. The lead, however, didn't last as Augie (1-0) scored an unearned run in the second and two unearned runs in the third to grab the lead for good.

Bennington senior Bailey Backhuus (1-2) was the tough luck loser, allowing one earned over seven full innings. She struck out five, walked two and allowed seven hits.

Four different Lopers had a hit with Grand Island senior center fielder Mackenzie Tomlin and Ralston freshman Taylre Keenan each scoring.

Wayne (1-0) scored three times in the first, two in the second, one in the fifth and five runs in the sixth to win the nightcap. Having 13 hits, only three of the Wildcats runs were earned.

Grand Island junior Taryn Trosper (0-2) allowed three earned over 5.2 innings with Lincoln junior second baseman Mallory Noakes and Elmwood sophomore first baseman Erin Dwyer each having two hits apiece.

The 'Cats saw catcher Megan Hagemann (2 for 3) and shortstop Sam O'Brien (2 for 4) each knock in three runs.

UNK plays only one game on Saturday, a 6:00 p.m. tilt against the Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears. CSP began its season Friday night vs. Missouri Western State.
