Drew Butler scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth inning to help Nebraska-Kearney sweep a double header from NW Missouri State, 9-7 and 6-5, Saturday afternoon in Coffeyville, Kans.

By holding off the Bearcats (4-5,1-2) in each contest, the Lopers (8-2, 2-1) have a chance to win the series on Sunday afternoon.Â

In the nightcap, UNK scored five times in the bottom of the first thanks to six hits. However, the Lopers were blanked over the next four innings by Northwest starter Kole Klocko.

Butler (Kearney Catholic H.S.) led off the sixth with a single and moved up 180 feet thanks to a sac bunt and ground ball out. Relieve Brian Schmiedt then uncorked a pitch to the back stop, allowing Butler to score.

Junior righty
Ross Mortensen (Colo. Springs, Colo.) earned the win in relief by throwing two scoreless innings. Freshman lefty
Daniel LeDuc (Lincoln Pius) tossed a scoreless fifth with seven different Lopers recording a hit.

Danny Droll (Penrose, Colo.) and freshman third baseman
Josh Kiger (Papillion-LaVista South), who each went 2 for 3.

Northwest tried to rally in game one as well as they crossed home plate four times in the top of the seventh to make it 6-5. Â However, with two runners in scoring position, Wyoming senior
Dalton Cowen (2-0) struck out cleanup hitter Eric McLaughlin to end the inning.

Kearney tacked on three insurance runs before the 'Cats scored twice in the seventh. With two on and two out, North Platte sophomore
Joe Smidt got a ground ball to end the game.

Cowen allowed only two earned in six full innings with four K's and a walk. At the plate, UNK had 13 hits with five players having two or more.
From the leadoff spot, junior center fielder
Brandon Landanger went 3 for 3 with three runs and
Dillon Schroeder went 2 for 3 with two RBI's from the three hole.
