Nine Hole Hitter Paces SBU

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Kearney, Neb. – Southwest Baptist junior shortstop Ross Wolfe hit a two-out double in the bottom of the ninth inning to help the Bearcats win the second game of a wild double header, 14-13, over Nebraska-Kearney Friday in Tishomingo, Okla.

The Bearcats (4-6, 4-4) took the first game, 7-4, and won three of four in a series originally set for Bolivar, Mo., but moved to Murray State J.C. due to weather.

UNK (9-6, 3-5) was poised to come back from an 8-2 hole as they scored two in the fifth, three in the sixth and four more in the seventh.

In the sixth, Texas junior Coby Roming (2 for 5) belted a two-run triple with Grand Island junior Max Ayoub (2 for 3) blasting a three-run homer in the seventh. That inning began with the first collegiate dinger for Omaha freshman Josh Kiger (2 for 6).

However, SBU tied the game at 11 thanks to a three-run eighth. They used a walk and three hits, none bigger than a two-run single off the bat of Christian Binger (2 for 5, five RBI's).

After UNK left the potential game winning run stranded at second, the Bearcat ninth featured a single by senior Bo Helsel (3 for 5, three runs) before Wolfe's big hit. From the nine hole, he finished 4 for 4 with three runs and two RBI's.

For the Lopers, juniors Danny Droll (Penrose, Colo.) and Brandon Landanger (Kearney H.S.) each went 3 for 4 with Iowa senior Logan Willard allowing only two earned over 3.1 eventful innings.

In game one, junior starter Brady Greear threw a scoreless fourth and then two relievers blanked UNK for three more innings. SBU tallied four runs in the third thanks to a single by Binger and a three-run homer from Spencer Blacksher.

Later, Wolfe (3 for 3) added an RBI double.

Gering senior Carolos Palomo threw 1.1 innings of scoreless relief with Landanger and sophomore Anthony Pacheco (Kearney Catholic H.S.) each collecting two hits.

UNK plays at Fort Hays State next weekend.
