Box Score Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney baseball team had 19 hits, including seven doubles, to outscore Missouri Southern State, 15-8, Saturday afternoon at Memorial Field.
This was the regular season finale for both teams. UNK (30-17, 24-16) has qualified for the eight-team MIAA Tournament and will find its opponent tomorrow afternoon.
The Lions, after starting 12-0, end up 24-26 (17-23) and will not make the postseason.
In a game that featured 23 runs, 33 hits, eight errors, five wild pitches, four walks, three hit batters, and three passed balls, UNK scored eight of the last nine runs to win going away.
Southern tacked on five runs in the top of the fourth to lead 7-5. A Loper error extended things with catcher Matt Smith having a two-run double to cap the outburst.
A single and two doubles quickly tied things up in the bottom of the fourth with a four-run UNK fifth featuring RBI's from senior left fielder
Jayke Brock (3 for 6, team-high four RBI's) and junior catcher
Danny Droll (3 for 4, three runs & two RBI's).

Aaron Smith (Cheyenne, Wyo.) struck out four and allowed one earned run in 4.1 innings of relief work to improve to 6-1. Senior starter
Adam Peters (Lincoln SW) departed after giving up two earned in 3.2 innings.

Coby Roming (3 for 6, two runs) and sophomore right fielder
Anthony Pacheco (3 for 6, four runs & two RBI's) also had big days at the plate as eight UNK starters had at least one hit.
Finally, today's win allows the 2014 squad to become the seventh in school history to reach 30 wins. Five of those seasons have come since
Damon Day became skipper in 2004.
