Box Score 2 Kearney, Neb. – The Fort Hays State softball team used four big innings to sweep a double header from Nebraska-Kearney, 12-4 and 6-4, Saturday afternoon in Kansas.
These same two teams will play a non-conference double dip in Kearney on Sunday beginning at noon.
UNK (12-28, 9-17) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning of game one on the strength of two hits and two Tigers errors.
However, Kearney mustered just one run and five hits over the next four innings. Senior Jordan Jones won her first game of the year for the Tigers by throwing two scoreless innings in relief of starter Paxton Duran.
Hays (28-17, 17-9) scored three in the second, four in the fourth and five in the fifth to win in five. Center fielder Amanda Vaupel went 3 for 3 with three runs scored and lead off hitter Bianca Adame was 3 for 4 with two runs and seven RBI's.
To bring home seven, Adame had three-run double, a two-run double and a two-run single. Senior third baseman

Erin Dwyer (Elmwood) both had two hits to lead UNK.
The blue & gold got out to a 4-0 lead in the night cap as the second inning included two Tiger errors and singles by junior shortstop Malloy Noakes (Lincoln SW) and sophomore second baseman
Sydney Trosper (Grand Island).
UNK, however, recorded just one more hit the rest of the way.
Hays used four hits and a UNK error to score two in the fourth and then crossed home plate four times in the sixth to finish the scoring. The big inning featured five hits, including a two-run single by Kylie Stand (2 for 4) and an RBI single by Vaupel (2 for 3).
Relief pitcher Kelsey Kimminau won her 10th game by throwing 5.1 scoreless innings.
