Loper Nine Headed to Oklahoma for MIAA Tourney Series

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney baseball team is the sixth seed in the 2014 MIAA Tournament and will play a best-of-three series at third-seed Central Oklahoma later this week.

The Lopers (30-17) and Bronchos (34-14) didn't play each other during the regular season. Last April, UCO beat UNK in three straight games in Edmond.

By losing three of four at home this weekend to league champ Central Missouri, UCO fell into a second place tie with Emporia State (26-14). The Bronchos lost the tiebreaker with ESU to drop to the third seed in the eight-team field.

Single nine-inning games will be played Thursday and Friday at 2:30 p.m. (Wendell Simmons Field doesn't have lights) with an "if necessary game" held Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Rain day is Sunday, May 4th; the series cannot be played past this day.

The UNK/UCO winner advances to the next round of the MIAA Tournament (double elimination) May 8-11 at John Q. Hammons Field in Springfield, Mo. The first round opponent will be either second-seed Emporia or seventh-seed Washburn.
