Taryn Trosper
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Kearney, Neb. – Sophomores Erin Dwyer and Kate Ruwe each knocked in four runs to help Nebraska-Kearney shut out NW Missouri State, 11-0 (5 innings), in the first game of a double header Sunday in Maryville, Mo.

The Bearcats (16-20, 9-9) scored a run in the sixth inning to take the night cap, 4-3.

UNK (9-23, 7-13) had 14 hits and drew two walks to reach double digits in runs for the fifth time this spring. The Lopers scored three in the first, one in the third, three more in the fourth and four in the fifth.

The top four hitters in Kearney's lineup were a combined 10 for 14 with 10 RBI's and 10r runs scored. That group included Dwyer (Elmwood) and Ruwe (Blair), who both hit three-run homers in the win.

On the mound, Grand Island junior Taryn Trosper won for the third time in 2014 by having five K's and allowing just five hits in five innings. She also didn't walk a batter to record her first shut out this year.

UNK jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second game as Ruwe had an RBI single to center with Grand Island senior Mackenzie Tomlin bringing home two more with a single to right.

However, the Lopers were shut out over the final six innings by Bearcat starter Sarah Baldwin. She fanned seven and walked just one to even her record at 8-8.

Northwest tied the game in the fourth when Chantel Adams hit a three-run dinger to center. There were two out and none on in the Bearcat sixth before Kristen Uthe drew a walk and moved to second on a single.

Another single brought Uthe home. UNK did get the potential game tying runner to second in its half of the seventh but two ground outs ended the contest.

Next weekend, the Lopers are at Missouri Southern State and Pittsburg State.
