Box Score Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney women's soccer team took 12 more shots but ended in a 1-1 (2 OT) tie with the Sioux Falls Cougars Friday night in South Dakota.
This was the season opener for both clubs. Last year in Kearney, UNK bested USF, 1-0, in overtime.
The Lopers started the scoring about eight minutes before the break after junior
Montanna Hosterman (Papillion-LaVista South H.S.) lined up for one of UNK's seven corners.
Her kick bounced around and senior
Lauren Hoeft (Holdrege) managed to knock the loose ball in for her third career goal. UNK kept up the pressure, taking four more shots before the break, two from freshman
Marika Van Brocklin (Hastings).
Another first year player,
Emily Kosch (Columbus Scotus H.S.), took a shot that went right of USF's goal in the 48th minute. Soon after, the Cougars tied things up when Elisa Martinez, from the top of the box, scored from 20 yards out.
Both teams had chances to score a second goal but Loper keeper
Regan Zach (Elkhorn H.S.) stopped five shots with Cougar reserve keeper Jordin Crosby making six saves over the last 65 minutes.
Hosterman took eight of UNK's 24 shots with Kosch having four and juniors
Nicole Potthoff (Kearney H.S.) and
Meaghan Pasbrig (Chandler, Ariz.) taking three apiece. For USF, Martinez had four shots with Ciara Howerton recording three.
UNK is at No. 21 SW Minnesota State on Sunday afternoon. The Mustangs were upset by Fort Hays State, 4-1, Friday night.
