Annie Wolfe added nine to help No. 16 Nebraska-Kearney sweep Lindenwood (-22, -17, -10) Friday night at the Health & Sports Center.
UNK is now 19-5 (8-3) while the Lions drop to 11-10 (3-7).
Holding Lindenwood to a negative .011 hitting percentage (24-25-95) on the night, UNK still found itself in a close battle early on. The first set featured 11 ties and four lead changes with the Lopers grabbing a 22-19 lead after kills by freshman
Kendall Schroer (Ogallala) and
Connar Newberry (McKinney, Texas).
Down the stretch, LWU got within one point twice but a service error and an unforced attack error gave the Lopers a 1-0 lead in the match.
Lindenwood had 10 of its kills in the first set but mustered just 14 the rest of the way. UNK, meanwhile, warmed up, eventually hitting .435 (13-3-13) in the final stanza.
Thomas (Yutan) reached her match-high kill total in 25 swings with only two errors (.320) with Wolfe adding six digs and two blocks to her offensive output. In the middle, Schroer and Lincoln sophomore
Tara Ziegelbein each had eight kills with Ziegelbein having team-highs in attack percentage (.667) and blocks (three).
Finally, senior
Erin Seele (Johnstown, Colo.) returned as the starting setter, finishing with 34 assists, four digs, two blocks and two kills.
Alex Dahlstrom paced the Lions with nine kills and a block.
UNK hosts 12th-ranked Central Missouri Saturday night. The Jennies (20-3, 8-2) swept Fort Hays State tonight in Kansas.
