Box Score Kearney, Neb. – The 12th-ranked Nebraska-Kearney volleyball team ran its win streak to 11 straight after sweeping Missouri Southern State (-15, -15, 21) Saturday afternoon at the Health & Sports Center.
The Lopers (28-5, 15-3) can do no worse than a second place tie in the league standings. Central Oklahoma rallied from a 2-0 deficit, and took the fifth set 26-24, at home today against Washburn to win the 2015 MIAA title with a 16-2 record.
UNK will host an MIAA Tournament first round match Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. The bracket will be released Saturday night after all regular season matches are complete.
Now 17-0 at home, the Lopers held MSSU (2-27, 1-17) to 29 kills and a .125 hitting percentage. UNK trailed just four times, three in a close third set.
Omaha junior right side
Annie Wolfe led in kills (11) with Greeley junior
Skyler Erickson tops in digs (11). The Lopers lone senior, setter
Erin Seele, had four blocks, eight digs and 35 assists.
UNK had to work hard for the sweep as the third set featured six ties, the last coming at 18 all. A solo block by Seele (Johnstown, Colo.) gave the Lopers the lead for good as they closed on a 7-3 run.
"This team has made as much progress as any that I can remember. We were not sure what we were going to be," said UNK head coach
Rick Squiers. "It's been fun to watch this group evolve and see individual players retool their game to the college level."
