Box Score Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney men's basketball team made 13 three pointers to clip Washburn, 82-76, Saturday at the Health & Sports Center.
UNK improves to 4-3 (1-1) while the Ichabods fall to 5-2 (1-1). In its season opener, Washburn upset No. 1 ranked Augustana.
The Lopers, who had 14 two-point buckets in the game, led for most of the way and came out of the gates strong, hitting three triples in the first three minutes to quickly go up 13-4.
Washburn hung around, however, never letting the deficit get bigger than nine points. The 'Bods then hit a shot right before the halftime buzzer to trail 41-36.
In the second half, Washburn scored the first nine points but then UNK responded with a run of its own, going ahead 55-50 on a three by Iowa sophomore post
Trey Lansman with 10:26 to play. Five different Lopers hit a trey on the night with Lansman leading the way, going 6 of 7 to score 22.
The Ichabods turned the tables on Kearney, hitting a three of its own to lead 73-70 with 3:15 left. UNK closed on a 12-3 run that featured threes from Lansman and York sophomore
Ty Danielson and six free throws.
The Lopers were 13 of 26 from behind the arc and 14 of 36 inside. Coming into the game, UNK was shooting 30% from the arc.
Coming off the bench, Ravenna senior
Connor Beranek scored a game-high 23 on 8 of 15 shooting. Going 6 of 6 at the line, he also had nine rebounds (six defensive) and two assists.
UNK out rebounded Washburn, 36-31, and had 15 second chance points. The 'Bods came in with a plus 10 rebounding margin on the season.
Besides strong shooting, Lansman also had six boards, two blocks and two steals with Danielson having four treys to score 12. Inside, Norfolk senior
Ethan Brozek had 14 points, six rebounds (three offensive) and three assists.
Washburn's backcourt of Javion Blake (22) and Cameron Wiggins (21) combined for 43 points with post Brady Skeen having 13 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks.
UNK heads to Southwest Baptist and Fort Hays State next week
