Box Score Kearney, Neb. – Senior right hander Victor Soto struck out five and senior right fielder Mike Wagner hit a two-run homer to help Colorado State-Pueblo beat Nebraska Kearney, 4-2, Sunday in Colorado.
The ThunderWolves (5-2) took two of three from the Lopers (5-5) this weekend.
All six runs were scored over the two innings with UNK striking first thanks to RBI's from senior catcher
Max Ayoub (Grand Island H.S.) and junior DH
Kyle Honeycutt (Millard South H.S.).
Pueblo quickly tied things up in the bottom of the first on Wagner's homer to left. The T-Wolves finished the scoring in their half of the second on the strength of a leadoff double, a single to left, two Loper errors, a wild pitch and stolen base.
A transfer from Division I Cal State Bakersfield, Soto threw five scoreless innings and allowed those two earned runs on two walks and five hits.
Pueblo had just four hits against three UNK pitchers with junior
Chris Sievers (Loveland, Colo.) allowing no earned runs and only one hit in four full innings. At the plate, senior third baseman
Danny Droll (Penrose, Colo.) was 2 for 4 with a run scored.
Kearney heads to Central Oklahoma next weekend.
