Box Score 2 Kearney, Neb. – Senior catcher
Max Ayoub hit two home runs and had six RBI's to help Nebraska Kearney beat Central Oklahoma, 16-6, in the first game of a double header Friday afternoon in Edmond, Okla.
Ayoub (Grand Island) hit another dinger in the nightcap but the Bronchos (2-6, 1-2) belted a Grand Slam in the first to win 8-3.
In a stadium with a short porch to right and a wind that usually blows that way, the two teams combined for nine homers, seven doubles and three triples among 42 total hits.
Senior DH
Dillon Schroeder (3 for 4, two runs) staked UNK to a 4-0 first inning lead in game one when he hit a two out, two-run homer to right center.
The Broncohs responded with two homers to right in the second and third innings to make it a 5-4 game in favor of the Lopers. Kearney, however, quickly busted things open with a four-run fourth and a six-run sixth.
Ayoub (3 for 5, three runs) hit three-run shots to left in both innings as UCO was forced to use six different pitchers in the contest.
Besides Schroeder (Kearney Catholic H.S.) and Ayoub, senior CF
Brandon Landanger (3 for 4, three runs) and senior 3b
Danny Droll (2 for 4, two runs) had big efforts at the plate. On the mound, senior
David Boddiger (Longmont, Colo.) earned his first win in his 36th Loper appearance by fanning two, walking none and allowing no hits in two full innings.
The offense continued in the second game as senior DH Dylan Tinkler hit a two out Grand Slam in the bottom of the first to get the Bronchos going. He had a solo long ball in the first game.
In the UCO second, senior 1b Jake O'Brien smacked a two-run shot to make it 7-0. That's all starter Brent Backlund (5.0 IP, six hits, three runs, two K's) and reliever Tanner Ferrell (2.0 IP, two hits, no runs, two K's) needed.
Ayoub's third homer of the day provided two runs in the fourth with Droll (Penrose, Colo.) finishing 2 for 3 with an RBI in the fifth.
The series wraps up Saturday afternoon.
