Box Score 2 Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska Kearney softball team dropped games to St. Cloud State, 7-6 (8 innings) and Concordia-St. Paul, 15-7 (5 innings), Friday morning in St. Cloud, Minn.
The games were a part of the Kelly Laas Memorial NSIC/MIAA Crossover Invite.
Things started off well for UNK (0-6) as they jumped out to a 5-0 lead over the SCSU Huskies threw 3.1 innings. The Lopers tallied single runs in the first and third innings and added three more in the top of the fourth.
However, SCSU (3-5) tied things up by scoring five times in the fourth and fifth innings and then moved ahead when sophomore Emma Hodges homered with two down in the sixth. The three runs scored in the Husky fifth also came with two outs.
UNK managed to tie things up in the seventh thanks to a couple of errors. But, the Lopers returned the favor in the eighth as a bad throw allowed the winning run to score from third.
Juniors
Cassie Roessing (Phoenix, Ariz.) and
Rebecca Wyatt (Glendale, Ariz.) and sophomore
Taylre Keenan (Ralston) had two hits apiece with freshman
Meg Housholder (Parker, Colo.) blanking St. Cloud for three innings.
In game two, Blair junior 1b
Kate Ruwe hit a two-run homer in the fourth and UNK scored three runs on a throwing error in the second but it wasn't enough as CSP (1-3) scored 15 times on the strength of 11 hits, 11 walks and two errors.
Freshmen Nicole Thompson (3 for 5, four RBI's) and Lizzy Swenson (2 for 4, three RBI's) and sophomore Emily Shinn (3 for 3, three runs) paced a Golden Bear attack that hit eight singles.
Tomorrow, UNK faces Minnesota State at around 9:00 p.m.
