Box Score 2 Eight Errors Lead to Big Innings for Pitt
Kearney, Neb. – The Pittsburg State softball team hit five home runs and took advantage of some miscues to sweep a double header from Nebraska Kearney, 8-2 and 19-3 (5 innings), Friday afternoon at Dryden Park.
These games were the home openers for the Lopers.
In game one, UNK (1-14, 1-5) led 1-0 after three innings as junior 3b
Makenzi Dallas (2 for 3) had an RBI single in the second and junior
Cassie Roessing (Phoenix, Ariz.) was limiting the Gorillas.
However, Pitt (10-4, 4-0) used a double, triple and Loper error to score twice in its half of the fourth. The floodgates then opened in the fifth as the Gorillas hit three home runs, including back-to-back shots, to score six. Five of the runs were of the unearned variety with four coming after two were out.
Freshman Emmie Robertson improved to 6-2 by throwing a complete game seven-hitter. Pitt had just seven hits in the win but five went for extra bases.
Roessing (1-2) allowed two earned in 4.2 innings with Colorado freshman
Meg Housholder throwing 2.1 innings of scoreless relief.
Pitt scored quickly in the nightcap as they crossed home plate seven times in the first and nine times in the second. Five UNK errors led to nine of the 19 runs being unearned.
Third baseman Kylie Guthier went 4 for 5 with three runs and six RBI's with McCreath finishing 2 for 2 with two runs and four RBI's. Guthier had a three-run dinger in the second with catcher Nicole Nease starting the inning with a homer to left center.
Dallas had another RBI to place the Lopers.
On Saturday, Missouri Southern State comes to Dryden for two games that start at noon.
