Mitchell Robinson had strong outings on the mound and Nebraska Kearney had nine extra base hits to sweep a double header from NW Missouri State, 5-3 and 11-4, Saturday in Maryville.
The Lopers (14-8, 8-3) didn't trail in either game as they had eight hits and got nine K's from Robinson (Golden, Colo.) in the first contest while smacking four homers in the nightcap. Senior catcher
Max Ayoub (Grand Island H.S.) had two of the dingers, capping a 3 for 4 effort.
Robinson is now 2-0 after allowing three earned on five hits and three walks in 4.1 innings. Throwing 94 pitches, he struck out the side in the first and had two K's in the third and fourth innings. North Platte junior
Joe Smidt worked the seventh to pick up his sixth save.
UNK scored four times in its half of the second on two hits, two errors and a walk. Leadoff hitter
Shane Sharkey (McKinney, Texas) had an RBI single in with sophomore RF
Brent Kirsch (Papillion) knocking in a run thanks to a fielder's choice.
Finally, senior 2b
Coby Roming (Canyon, Texas) finished 3 for 3 with two RBI's, two doubles and a triple from the nine hole.
Dittman (Colorado Springs, Colo.) went the distance in the nightcap, allowing one earned on six hits and walk. Throwing 96 pitches, he shut out the 'Cats (7-11, 5-6) from the third through sixth innings to pick up his first win in the Blue & Gold.
Finishing with 12 hits, Kearney scored three times in the second, five times in the fifth and added a pair of insurance runs in the seventh.
Kirsch (2 for 2, two runs) hit a three-run bomb in the third with Ayoub doing the same in the fifth. Ironically, Northwest walked cleanup hitter
Anthony Pacheco (2 for 3, two runs) to get to Ayoub.
In the seventh, Pacheco (Kearney Catholic H.S.) and Ayoub hit back-to-back long balls. Finally, senior CF
