Box Score 2 Kearney, Neb. – Juniors
Cassie Roessing and
Kate Ruwe each hit three-run homers to help Nebraska Kearney take game one of a double header with Wayne State, 12-3 (6 innings), Tuesday afternoon at Dryden Park.
Behind 15 hits and the pitching of Sara Scheffert, the Wildcats (11-3) won the nightcap, 13-7.
Besides belting a three-run dinger in a six-run sixth inning, Roessing (Phoenix, Ariz.) improved her pitching record to 3-2 as she threw a complete game 10-hitter. Allowing just one earned run, she fanned five and didn't walk a batter as Wayne stranded 10.
UNK (3-16) scored one in the second, two more in the third, three in the fourth and ended the game thanks to a six-run sixth. That big inning featured six hits, including a game ending two-run double off the bat of sophomore
Emilee Jonas (Omaha Skutt H.S.).
Ruwe (Blair) finished 3 for 4 with three RBI's and a run scored with Ralston sophomore
Taylre Keenan (3 for 4, two runs) and Arizona junior
Makenzi Dallas (2 for 4, two runs) also having big days at the plate.
It looked like the Lopers were poised for the sweep as they used three walks and three singles to score four times in the bottom of the first in game two. However, Scheffert (2-0) got a double play to get out of the jam, starting a string of 12 straight UNK batters she retired in order.
Wayne exploded for six in the second to take command. They also had a four-run sixth and scored twice in the third. Right fielder Kaiti Williams went 5 for 5 with two runs and four RBI's, left fielder Katelyn Wobken went 3 for 4 with two runs and three RBI's and Scheffert improved to 2-0 by fanning five in 5.0 full innings.
