Juniors Help Lopers Split in Jeff City

Kate Ruwe
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Kearney, Neb. – Junior first baseman Kate Ruwe went 5 for 5 and junior Cassie Roessing won again to help Nebraska-Kearney defeat Lincoln, 9-3, in the first game of a double header Saturday in Jefferson City, Mo.

Senior right fielder Allyson Corry capped a 5 for 5 effort in the nightcap by hitting a walk off single in the bottom of the seventh to lift the Blue Tigers to an 8-7 victory.

UNK (6-17, 5-7) crossed home plate seven times in the top of the first in game one. The big inning featured eight hits and two LU (3-21, 2-10) errors. The big blow was a two-run double by sophomore outfielder Taylre Keenan (Ralston).

While the Lopers were held to just two runs the rest of the way, Roessing (5-2) didn't let Lincoln back into it as she fanned five and allowed just three hits in five full innings. Freshman Meg Housholder (Eaton, Colo.) tossed the last two innings, allowing one earned on two hits and three walks.

Ruwe (Blair) had four singles and a double as part of her big effort at the plate. She was 5 for 5 with six RBI's in Saturday's second game at Lindenwood.

UNK tallied 17 hits as a team with Arizona junior Paige Hamelin (3 for 4), Lincoln sophomore Amanda Dunn (2 for 5, two RBI's) and Blair freshman Kaela Samek (2 for 3) also having multi-hit games.

The Loper offense was again strong early as they produced seven runs over the first two innings of the night cap. However, Lincoln junior Lauren Stamp settled down and picked up her first win by allowing six earned on six hits and a walk.

UNK had the go-ahead run at third base with no outs in the seventh but Stamp gout two ground outs and a pop up to keep things knotted at seven.

Lincoln had left the bases loaded in the sixth but struck pay dirt in the seventh thanks to a one out walk and back-to-back singles. From the two hole, Corry went 5 for 5 with two RBI's.

The Blue Tigers got back into the game thanks to a five-run second that included two hits, four walks and Loper error.

Ruwe went 0 for 3 but knocked in two more runs, pushing her season-total to a team-best 32. She also leads Kearney in average (.427), hits (32), doubles (eight), total bases (49) and slugging percentage (.653).

UNK hosts Colorado Christian in double headers on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon at Dryden Park
