UNK Takes Series from Pitt

Dillon Schroeder had 16 RBI's this weekend
Box Score Kearney, Neb. – Seven different players had multi-RBI efforts to help Nebraska Kearney beat Pittsburg State, 19-3 (7 innings), Sunday afternoon at Memorial Field.

This was the second time in the four-game series UNK (17-10, 11-5) "10-runned" the Gorillas (6-15, 3-9). By MIAA rule, a nine-inning contest ends after seven innings if a team is ahead by 10 or more runs.

After giving up 19 runs Friday night, the Lopers scored 47 runs to take the final three games of the series. Kearney batted .455 on the weekend, finishing with 21 extra base hits.

Today, seniors Max Ayoub (2 for 4, two runs & three RBI's) and Dillon Schroeder (2 for 3, three RBi's) and sophomore Anthony Pacheco (2 for 2, thee runs & three RBI's) each hit homers as UNK scored seven times in the fourth and four times in both the fifth and sixth innings.

Schroeder (Kearney Catholic H.S.) haunted Pitt this most this weekend, batting .714 (10 for 14) in the series with 16 RBI's and six runs.

On the mound, Colorado junior Chris Sievers (2-1) worked around six walks by allowing no earned runs in five full innings. He fanned six and gave up five hits in lowering his ERA to a team-best 1.78.

Junior John Watson (Shawnee, Okla.) finished off Pitt by striking out three in two innings of relief work.

UNK heads to Lincoln (1-17, 1-11) next weekend. The Blue Tigers have a road double header at William Jewell College (Mo.) on Wednesday night.
