Box Score 2 Kearney, Neb. – Junior first baseman
Kate Ruwe hit a one-out RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning to help Nebraska-Kearney rally past Colorado Christian, 6-5, in the second game of a double header Tuesday at Dryden Park.
The Cougars (11-17) scored three times in the top of the seventh to win game one, 5-2.
It was a pitcher's duel between CCU's Jennie Winston and Loper freshman
Meg Housholder in game two as the score was tied at two through five innings.
The Cougars scored a run in their half of the sixth with UNK (7-18) countering with a two spot in the bottom of the inning. Christian then used three hits to score two more runs in the top of the seventh.
Junior right fielder
Rebecca Wyatt (3 for 4, two runs) led off the Kearney seventh with an infield and took second on a sac bunt. Junior third baseman
Erin Dwyer (Elmwood) promptly tied the game with a sharp single to center and advanced a base on the throw home.
CCU could've walked Ruwe, who now is batting .444 with four HR's and 36 RBI's. Instead, they pitched to her and she smacked a sharp single to right center.
Ruwe ended the day 4 for 6 with a run and four RBI's. She entered the week second in the MIAA in RBI's; the school record for RBI's in a season is 65, set by Kathy Nelson in 1984.
Junior
Cassie Roessing (Phoenix, Ariz.) earned the win by fanning three and walking none in 1.2 innings of relief work. At the plate, sophomore left fielder
Taylre Keenan (Ralston) went 2 for 3 with junior SS
Paige Otte (Wahoo) drawing two walks and hitting an RBI double to left that gave UNK a 4-3 lead in the sixth. That was her first hit as a Loper.
In game one, CCU's Tara Feiner tossed a complete game five hitter, striking out four Lopers and walking none. Ruwe hit her fourth homer of the year, a two-run shot in the fourth, to account for UNK's runs.
CCU used four hits and took advantage of two Loper errors to score three times in the seventh. First baseman Sarah Rasmussen (3 for 4, two RBI's) had an RBI in the inning with two others finishing the game 2 for 3.
In defeat, Roessing (6-3) fanned a season-high 10 and walked only one Cougar.
Tomorrow's double header has been moved up an hour to 1:00 p.m.
