Box Score 2 Kearney, Neb. – Junior
Cassie Roessing threw two complete games and junior
Erin Dwyer hit a walk off single to help Nebraska-Kearney sweep a doubleheader from No. 19 Central Oklahoma, 8-6 and 6-5, Friday afternoon at a cold Dryden Park.
With the upset wins, UNK improves to 9-20 (7-7) while the Bronchos, the 2013 NCAA Division II National Champs, fall to 21-10 (7-3).
Roessing (Phoenix, Ariz.) is now 8-3 after throwing 250 pitches today. In the two games, she struck out 11 and walked just one while allowing 24 hits (17 singles). Roessing blanked UCO for two innings in game one and in four innings in game two.
At the plate, the Phoenix College transfer was a combined 4 for 6 with three runs, three RBI's and two towering homers.
It didn't appear Roessing would get her eighth win as UNK trailed 5-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh in game two. At the point, Broncho starter Jessi Walker had allowed only three hits and two walks.
But, Lincoln sophomore DP
Amanda Dunn started the comeback with a leadoff double and then Roessing and freshman 3b
Bailee Jensen (Papillion-LaVista South H.S.) drew walks. That brought sophomore 2b
Emilee Jonas (Omaha Skutt H.S.) to the plate and after UCO head coach Cody White went to the mound.
After taking a strike, she blasted a game-tying "Grand Slam" over the left field wall for her third career collegiate long ball.
UCO went to relief pitcher Kelsey Berlin but junior CF
Paige Hamelin (Payson, Ariz.) drew a walk on a 3-2 pitch and then took second on a sac bunt. Dwyer (Elmwood) managed to hit a 1-0 pitch to left to cap the comeback.
In defeat, the 'Chos Kaylee Brunson and Moran Heard each went 4 for 4.
UNK tallied six runs over the final three innings of game one to win by two. Dunn and Roessing each went 3 for 4 with two RBI's while Hamelin hit a two-run double in the fifth.
Heard went 3 for 4 again for UCO but the 'Chos stranded seven and didn't draw a walk against Roessing.
The Lopers host Northeastern State Saturday at noon.
